Enthusiasm has been inflated for the new-for-2018 Aussie Racing Utes Series, with tyre supplier Yokohama throwing their support behind the category.
Running as part of the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS), the Aussie Racing Utes category caters for V8-powered Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon Utes, ranging from the VU and AU-model vehicles of the early 2000s, to the recently-superseded VE and FG versions.
The series gives a place to race for a wide range of vehicles that competed in the Australian V8 Ute Racing Series, which concluded at the end of 2017.
Following their success as the control tyre supplier for the V8 Utes, Yokohama Motorsport Manager Alan Bradshaw said it was natural for the company to continue supporting the new series.
“The Ute Series over many years has been great for Australian motorsport fans, so when AMRS announced they were planning the Aussie Racing Ute Series, we just had to jump on board,” Mr Bradshaw said.
“Yokohama has been supplying tyres to the Ute Series, in its many forms, for over a dozen years now.
“Once we heard there were plans for a new leaner and meaner Aussie Racing Ute Series, we jumped at the chance to remain involved. The Utes are a fan base favourite wherever they go, and offer the best on-track entertainment.
“We just love the way they showcase our tyres with their classic racing style. Bring on season 2018 and beyond!”
The opening round of the 2018 Aussie Racing Ute Series was won by motorsport veteran Richard Mork. The second round of the series will be held as part of the next AMRS round at Mallala, 6-8 April, with the series also venturing to the other AMRS events at Morgan Park, Wakefield Park, Sydney Motorsport Park and finishing at Winton.
