Yokohama has inflated its commitment to the new-for-2018 Aussie Racing Utes Series, announcing a free set of Advan control tyres will be presented to the winners of each of the final three rounds.
The series, which caters for Holden and Ford V8 Utes from 2001 onwards and runs as part of the Australian Motor Racing Series (AMRS), has attracted modest entries for the opening rounds but is set to grow over the remainder of the season.
AMRS operations manager Wayne Williams said Yokohama’s commitment is demonstration of their belief in the series.
“We decided to create the Aussie Racing Utes category to provide a home for superseded V8 Utes, because we know there are plenty out there,” Mr Williams said.
“A lot of Ute owners have expressed their desire to compete in the series, and we’re anticipating an expanded entry list of the final three rounds of the series at Wakefield Park, Sydney Motorsport Park and Winton – at least one former series champion looks like having a run, which will be a boost for the category.
“The tyre prize will certainly boost the level of competition at the front of the field; some drivers will have to tread carefully so as not to suffer punctured egos.”
The next round of the Aussie Racing Utes will be held at Round 4 of the AMRS at Wakefield Park, 17-19 August. Richard Mork currently leads the standings ahead of Charlie Kovacs and Clint Henderson.
